JANAKA'S ART RESUME
Janaka, while serving in the Peace Corps in Cameroon, West Africa, began teaching himself how to draw and paint in 1984. In 1993, he began his formal training in the arts while studying to be a Waldorf teacher. His work has been represented by galleries in Corvallis, Palm Springs, Salinas and, presently, in Carmel.

Janaka enjoys working with a variety of media, especially oil, pastels, acrylics and watercolors. For the most part his work is spiritual or visionary in nature, seeing his artwork as part of his spiritual pathway and as a vehicle to help people heighten or alter their perceptions of the world around and within. His style might best be described as impressionistic/expressionistic  with his strong use of colors.

As Janaka was able to override the strong programming he picked up in his early education that he was not an artist and so had no business doing artwork, one of his missions as an artist is to help others tap into their creativity, whether they be children or adults.
