I very much enjoyed Janaka's class. I've learned more than just how to paint. he has so much knowledge to share.--Liz, Reiki Master and Photographer, Pacific Grove, CA

It has been such an adventure, discovery, working with Janaka and the other students...learning more about art, myself and about other people in new ways. The world looks different, too...more colors, more details.--Lynda Richardson, Physical Therapist, Monterey, CA

It has been time well spent--filling my soul with the possibilities of color and life--opening my eyes to all the wonders of form and color in everyday life.--Natalie, Educator, Salinas, CA

My son was delighted when I “went to school” to attend the first of the Four Temperaments Workshops—Painting, taught by Janaka Stagnaro and facilitated by Mia Michael.

Those who attended were treated to a refreshing day dedicated to creativity and a deeper understanding of Rudolph Steiner’s ideas. The topic was presented through discussion, lecture with illustrations, and hands-on painting. What an opportunity it was to have both Janaka and Mia there to answer our questions about Waldorf philosophy. I came to see the temperaments as tendencies within us requiring balance.

The creative play in a safe environment was rewarding in itself and resulted in many beautiful paintings. Janaka also discussed how to talk to our children about their art in a genuine, supportive way.

My only complaint about the workshop was that it went by too quickly. Luckily Janaka has now extended it to Friday morning art classes for adults. We all know what a great teacher he is with the children. He is equally outstanding with adults. In his attentive and unpretentious way, he shares his enthusiasm and draws upon his own wide experience to enrich the class.

If some part of you longs for more creativity, even if you feel inexperienced, please join us on Fridays. We are a friendly group and this is a nurturing place to experiment. If you aren’t sure, you should at least try one class. As a mother, I have a busy schedule, but taking this time for art has enhanced our whole family
. --Analynn Thomasen, Artist, Pacific Grove, CA

I was always fascinated by (and envious of) how my children were taught to draw and paint in the Waldorf School. I too wanted to know how to paint "the Waldorf wet-on-wet way." When I tried at home to recreate it, my paintings never looked quite the same as my children's paintings.

So, when Janaka offered to teach an adult art class, I jumped at the opportunity. I am so delighted that I did. I have had 12 weeks of opening up my creative forces.
The first four weeks I worked with clay. What a marvelous experience! I have discovered I love working with this medium. I sculpt every chance I find. I would never have realized this soul love if I lad not had this opportunity just to play with the clay. In class, Janaka always had gentle suggestions about ways to help my own creative ideas unfold. I wish there was more time to sculpt more often. ,.

During the next four weeks, I learned the basics of drawing with charcoal. This was another wondrous experience. Working with the light and the dark, the delicate and the bold strokes of the charcoal, was remarkable. I learned different techniques for enlivening my drawings. It changed the way I draw; I have more confidence now.

The following four week block covered wet-on-wet watercolor painting. It was so much fun to learn what my children get to do every week. Oh, the colors blended so magically; they played with each other on the paper. Watching Janaka so quickly and easily transform a white piece of paper into a landscape, I marveled at his ability. He is a very talented artist. Once again, he had a gentle helpful suggestion: put an "alligator" somewhere in my painting - something out of the ordinary, something unpredictable. Now I look at my paintings and wonder where that "alligator" will appear.

I can hardly wait till the veil painting starts in April. I am so overjoyed by this grand gift that Janaka has bestowed upon our community. I thank him from the bottom of my creativity and my heart.

It seems my creativity has blossomed since I have been with the Waldorf School. This is a place I have always wanted to be, where creating beauty with my hands goes with unfolding the magic in my soul.
