ARTIST'S STATEMENT

In painting landscapes I rarely go out and do the plein aire thing; instead I walk the land or just sit, observe, listen, feel, and perhaps sketch. Then I go back home and play with the colors first and then bring the landscapes out of them. Sometimes, I must admit, I work from a photo. I do not like too much detail. I am near sighted, so without my glasses the world is pretty much an impressionistic painting of blurred colors, which is reflected in my work in my search for the Essential. Most of my  more recent paintings were created out of my summer travels to Ireland, England and Scotland, where I fell in love with the stony land.
Alas, there are many of the following pictures that are a bit on the slow side in their appearance--perhaps due to shyness or my technical deficeincies. Regardless, I beg your patience.
